Become a Volunteer Today

Have you ever heard the phrase…..”Use It or Lose It.”? For me that’s always meant…”Use Your Talents/Blessings or Lose Them.”  That’s the reason behind why I volunteer.  I’ve been a volunteer basketball coach and football coach, on and off, for over 47 years. I’ve volunteered at Meals-On-Wheels for over 20 years.  I’ve been Frat {Alpha} for over 42 years, and helped individuals with starting and running their businesses for over 20 years. In fact, each of the projects I’ve highlighted (except for those that belong to me personally) on this site were done for FREE!

In short, Most of the things I do on a regular basis is, in essence, volunteer work. I’ve got no choice, I’m too afraid of losing my talents, Blessings if you will, for me to do otherwise.

You need to try it, the rewards will

Ongoing Causes

In the world we live in today, finding causes that need your time, effort, and in some cases, money, are way too numerous to list. So the problem is NOT where you can help, but which one to help.  The CAUSES that are highlighted here are those that I’ve identified as representing philosophies that are better-suited to where my head is at this moment in my Journey.

Support Your Local HBCU

HBCUs have always been the cornerstone of Black-folk success and empowerment.  They need our support, and money, now more than ever.  My HBCU is FAMU, the school that I often tell folk was the equivalent of going from 11th grade to 12th. In other words, in my family, going to college was never an issue, and which college to go to was an even lesser issue. Everybody that went to college in my family, to my knowledge at least, went to FAM.

In case you’re not aware, this country is in an all-out war to win control over our democracy.  January 6, 2020 was not a peaceful demonstration of a group of disgruntled citizens.  January 6, 2020 was an outright attempted INSURRECTION.

Your Job, should You Decide to Accept It, is to VOTE, period. That’s how we win.  The WE, is everyone that wants our democracy to survive.

Frat, It’s not just a job….it’s an adventure!

When the Bruhs announced that I was their choice back then, it darn-near brought me to tears.  I literally had no idea.  In fact, when I got up to receive the award, I told everyone who “I” voted for, because I honestly believed that Brother deserved it more.  Years later, one of the Brothers told me why he voted for me. After he rattled off all the things I had done (I had forgotten that I did most of what he listed). It was then that he made me realize how much time I had, and still do to this day, invested in my Frat.

Meals-On-Wheels™

Sadly, most of my clients really look forward to seeing me, and its not because I’m bringing them the only meal they’ll probably have for the day, but because I’m the only person they’ve spoken with since my last visit.

As we age, several changes occur in your life. For one, we lose friends more often than we’d like. Another is loneliness.  Suicide amongst seniors is higher than we’d like to admit.  So do your part and make a Senior happy.  Remember, that may be you one day!

This was ME at the 2023 Alpha’s Day-On-The-Hill annual gathering of the Frat during Florida’s legislative session. Here I am giving my two cents on how we should be advocating for OUR community.
